So where are you from?

Well, not you specifically, but everyone in general.

Answers operates all over the world, after all it's on the Internet!

Occasionally I see "English" questions that were entered from countries other than the United States. The world doesn't revolve around the USA, although I think many people would like to think it does.

Wouldn't it be nice to at least have an easy way to determine the country of origin? True, some people will offer those details in their profile, but many don't.

Take this recent question for example...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au_.5...

Many answerers were quick to answer based on where they are from. But since we don't know for sure where the asker is from, it makes it difficult to answer. Digging deeper we may find he is from the UK, but should we have to "dig"? Shouldn't that be a basic part of his profile?

    I am with you Todd...

I also think part of the profile should be the users age so we know if we are answering a question from a kid under 18 or an adult...

Also knowing where they are in the time zone or part of the world would make more sense to me so I could answer more accurately...

I wish it was that way...

Sometimes I am afraid to give too much info or too deep of an answer for fear that I am talking to a young kid...

    Hey there Todd,

Lol, okay, maybe I'm from one of those that like thinking it does.

You actually have a strong point about us being able to see the users country of origin, and as Yahzmin said, this seems to have already been suggested (though we all know that doesn't mean much at all with the Y!A customer dis-service, as some like to call it). I don't think it plays that much of an important role in MOST questions, but to some (as in the link you supplied) it does apply. Even so, even if it doesn't play that of an important role, it should still be interesting to see the user's country.

Anyways, to answer your question, I'm of course from good ol' New York!!

    Take care........

Since I know that YA is set by default to questions and answers from all! English speaking countries, I always take this into consideration when answering. I'm a German user, from the city of Wiesbaden...

I think this has been suggested on the Forum before, but not adopted yet. Hopefully they will do something in the future, like include it on our "pop-ups", so we can stop trying to identify English spiders as American (my favorite!). Me, Delaware, USA here.
