Best bet go to e machines site www.emachines.com/support/ and check the machine specs there, this will tell you if you need ddr1 or ddr2 sticks, this makes a difference as one will not fit the other. Make sure you get sticks of the same make or ones that are compatible. 1 gig of ram is adequate but 2 is usually the most convenient as there are two slots on most mobo's and if you buy 2 you can buy identical ones.Hope this helps Lo xxx

Based on info supplied, it appears you need this type:
PC3200 DDR400 DIMM Memory. Now how much is the question. You can go here to look at pricing since I dont know if you are talking about a laptop or a desktop: http://www.memorysuppliers.com/ddrpc.html?siconten...
SIDE NOTE: Be sure that your computer can handle the ram upgrade. If you buy 2gb's and your motherboard will only support 1gb, then you wasted money.

Try a company called orca, logic they have this bit of software on their site that you can download which when run examines your Machine and tells you exactly what type of memory you need.
