Babies go through sleep pattern changes all the time. There could be a number of reasons. Is he eatting solids yet? Is he getting enough solids/milk, is he teething or unwell? Has there been any big chages in your life recently?
Aside from the numerous possible reasons, yes it is normal for their sleep patterns to change. You are not doing anything wrong - it's just what babies do. They do eventually fall into a sleep pattern that suits everyone. For the time being, if your sleep is being interrupted or you are not getting enough sleep, try sleeping when you son does (if you can). Sleep deprivation is bad for everyone.
