How About That!!?

The Cleveland Indians have the best record in Baseball, have won 20 of there last 25 games, have a legitemit Cy Young candidate, who, with a little luck, can pull out 20 wins this year, and just destroyed the Tigers in a 3 game sweep. Anyone change their mind about the Tribe's chances in the Playoffs? Because it is not just IF, but WHEN they clinch, arguably the best division in baseball for the 7th time in 13 years.

Update:

Joseph H...you havent a clue...The Tigers set up there rotation to throw there 3 top pitchers in Cleveland, and got swept. Cleveland had a 2 game lead on July 4, and have a 7.5 lead now (After a 3 game sweep).

Update 2:

Petere M, I never said they were alone with the best...but they do have the best...and I beleive we split 10 dec. with the LAA.

Update 3:

Ozgard-Indians beat the Yanks on the way to the series in 95 and 97 I believe.

Update 4:

jmf-you are correct, although no one is gonna consider Carmona after he lost 11 strait at the end of last year/beg. this year.

Update 5:

michael-you have changed your avatar twice today already...I sort of like mine although it looks nothing like me!

You can definitely ink the Indians in for the playoffs but thats about all you can do right now. They are tied for the best record in the AL but still have some tough games ahead. They haven't beaten the Yankees all year, so I wouldn't be so comfortable about facing them in the playoffs either. Boston is stumbling like an alcoholic so I wouldn't worry much about the Red Sux in the playoffs. But the Angels even though struggling a bit are still a very dangerous playoff team. So even though Cleveland is going to be a good team in the playoffs I don't see their inexperience getting them to the World Series, not this year at least. But then again it's the playoffs and ANYTHING can happen.

Verlander is the only respectable pitcher right now for Detroit. Their bullpen is in shambles altogether, Rogers is unreliable after the injury. So I wouldn't feel SO great about the series, the sweep was definitely impressive but certainly not a surprise.

Let me add to your comment-

The Indians have TWO legimate Cy Young contenders.

They have won 15 out of their last 20 games. They will need to keep up that .750 mark to win the #1 seed (win 7 or 8 out of 10 games left). Regardless if they make the #1 seed, they can win against any of the AL teams they will play (Its not possible for them to play the Angels in the ALDS). But if they do get the 1 seed, they will have the ALDS locked up. They will be pitching 2 Cy Young candidates in 4 of 5 games, if necessary.

The AL Central is the toughest division in baseball. Some people think it is the AL East, but that is NEVER more than 2 teams within 15 games. The Central is usually pretty close and the last 2 AL champs came from it.

I never really had an opinion as to whether or not Cleveland makes the playoffs, but they have really stepped it up this year and played well. As a Yankee fan, I've been paying more attention to the AL East race as of late but have noticed how good Cleveland's bullpen has been especially Betancourt and Borowski (despite his high ERA). If New York can't win it this year, I'd definitely root for Cleveland over Anaheim and Boston. The AL Central has produced the AL representative in the WS the past 2 years (White Sox and Tigers) and Cleveland could have the right mix to get there this year.

Your team is the 2005 White Sox - they could be the best team in baseball, but because ESPN does not care about them, no one knows how good they really are.

I hope to see Cleveland sweep thru the AL and win the World Series. It would be redemption after getting robbed against Florida in the 90's.

uhmm they just swept the tigers who have stumbled there way through the second half. i only give them credit for pounding verlander who is a great pitcher. theyre playing well but i think they lose to the yankees red sox in the first round... and if not the first round there is no way they win the ALCS. However if they do find a miracle and advance to the world series, they will easily win because ne of the NL teams in the hunt right now cant compare to ne of the AL playoff bound teams

I like the looks of your Avatar. Since I had it first, maybe you could do a new one. Maybe I need to change mine.

Cleveland stopped being "the mistake by the lake" when they built that beautiful stadium.

Funny how that tends to happen, in one city after another. You'd expect teams to be hurt by payroll restraint when they've spent a bundle on a new crib!!!

You have every right to be thrilled about your team. Should they get to the world series they would be a difficult team to beat with Sabathia and Carmona possibly pitching five games between them. Of course, they will have to beat two good teams to get to the world series but I would not be surprised to see them win it all.
