When you go to Tenerife, do you make an effort to leave the beach and see some of the local parts of the island?

Yup!
I stayed in a little place called Los Gigantes, right on the bottom tip. A hire car took me over the mountains to the north west side (scary driving in low cloud 'fog'). It was easy to get up to the volcano and crater.
It was an easy drive to Stanta Cruz and well worth a day out.
A coach trip to Castel StAngelo was well worth it.
Get off the beach, get away from the stuff that's within a mile of the coast and you loose the slobs, drunks, layabouts and rip-off merchants.
You can have beaches almost anywhere but not exotic semi-tropical islands. See the interior, it's a great place.

In Tenerife there are a lot of things to do and one of them is visiting: Teide which is a vulcano and the highest mountain of Spain.

Aboslutely. We stayed in the 5 star Marco Antonio resort in July and never visited the beach at all. Too many other things to do.

Definitely, especially as the beaches are not up to much. Go and see Mount Teide and the inland areas.
