What’s the deal? People ask where they can buy an item off the net, then put “not eBay” in their question

It just bugs me all to h*ll.

What's wrong with eBay? Sure, I know people get scammed on eBay, but they get scammed on other selling sites as well. I think it's that they don't understand how eBay works. There are safeguards in place for buyers, so they don't get scammed. I've had maybe 3 times when a seller/buyer wasn't honest. Every time, eBay came through, and made it right.

So why the distrust of eBay? I don't get it at all.

I'm sure I will add details as answers come in.

It may not be distrust. Some folks just don't want to go through the bother of "bidding" on ebay. Or setting up an account and figuring out how to pay for things, like having to set up a paypal account. It's a hassle. And then, there may be folks like me, who are "banned" from the ebay site by our workplace -- and don't have access at home. So, I can shop on-line, but NOT use ebay.
