What’s the deal? People ask where they can buy an item off the net, then put “not eBay” in their question
It just bugs me all to h*ll.
What's wrong with eBay? Sure, I know people get scammed on eBay, but they get scammed on other selling sites as well. I think it's that they don't understand how eBay works. There are safeguards in place for buyers, so they don't get scammed. I've had maybe 3 times when a seller/buyer wasn't honest. Every time, eBay came through, and made it right.
So why the distrust of eBay? I don't get it at all.
I'm sure I will add details as answers come in.

Good point there. Just do your research, look at their feedback, etc.

there could be a few reasons why.
It's obvious that you're experienced using it, some aren't and may not want to get involved with learning how to use it right then and there. (I thought about buying something from there and needed to read their FAQs a little first.)
So maybe it's not so much as a complete distrust, but a distrust of their own knowledge and experience with using it. I see nothing wrong with that.
Maybe they need the item as soon as possible, you said yourself that you've had a couple problems, maybe they don't want to wait for eBay to "make it right" if they do. -- (and from looking at your list of answers it looks like alot of people have problems with it to me!)
--- also keep in mind with that last one, not everyone uses credit cards to buy online.
In all actuality, I'm sure people get scammed much less often on other well-known and trusted selling sites than they do on eBay. -- What comes to mind for me is Amazon, where I've bought miscellaneous used items. I've never had a problem there.
There is also the possibility that some are younger and buying under the guidance of their parents and using their credit card, maybe their parents set that guideline.

Some people think it's only for used goods or they will have a problem if they need to return the item.
I bought one of my laptops from an ebay seller and I had a best customer service in my life - the laptop failed twice in the first month and both times the seller paid for shipping and fixed it for me. They even restored all the data from a failed hard drive.
On the other hand I got scammed for I don't exactly remember how much when I tried to buy a laptop from a seller in Spain. There are certain red flags the buyer should know such as if the seller don't accept PayPal or credit card then he can just keep the money and send nothing, or the item is sold "as is".
Ebay is a safe place for knowledgeable buyer but it's not so safe for a newbie.

Its becaus eeBay is all appropriate to the used issues and individuals dont like 2nd hand. Thats why human beings dont like eBay, they dont like used issues. i admire eBay, i myself offered my wedding ceremony dress off of there. It replaced into custom made to me and replaced into absolutley beautiful and precisely what i wanted. i replaced right into slightly weary of procuring for it from eBay, yet after onths of finding dress ahops and ot finding something, I have been given the dress of my targets, and for a hundred dollar too!!

Well, it is a personal choice. If they don't want to use Ebay, they don't have to. That's why they put 'not Ebay'. If you are so offended, move on to a different question.
