A cop can't do anything unless he witnesses it, or can determine who is at fault if there was an accident. You can request some extra police presence in the troubled area though.

I know you're just blowing off steam, but I'm going to answer just like you really asked a question. You can report this driver, but fat lot of good it will do you. It sucks when people violate the law and get away with it, but the truth is that the police are too under-staffed to go through the trouble of chasing the guy down just to go through a finger-pointing game. No offense, but with your tarnished record you wouldn't make a very credible witness at this point, and the police didn't see him commit a crime. You'll have more luck next time if you report it immediately. Tell them the license number, how fast he was going, what road you're on and where the other driver is headed. And please do, whenever you can. It helps if they can catch the guy while he's driving. Good luck with your traffic fine.

you can't do anything, but complain. I've seen a lot of traffic violations done right in front of cops who do nothing. some people think if a cop lets someone get away with stuff the cop was a good guy. the truth is the cop is a lazy, idiot that should be asking someone "do you want fries with that?" not "do you know why i stopped you?". in many places they get real lazy until there is a string of accidents in the area and the local news starts running stories about it. then some police chief comes out smiling for the cameras, telling us how they are going to "crack down", really meaning, do their job as they should have been doing all along. sorry, but you probable need to wait for some wrecks or someone to get hit while crossing the road.

You said this happens while you are driving home. Is this about the same time every night? If so, you can call the police and advise them of the time/location.
Police have limited resources and receive a lot of calls about traffic violations. By giving them both a time and a place, they are more likely to investigate. Just having a car in the area will likely deter most people.

by adjacent do you mean you're going straight and they're turning or are they actually crossing in front of you?
for the first one I've seen a lot of people take the left turn when only the straight light turns green. It seems to be a reflex action and by the time they realize the turn light wasn't green it's too late and they might as well go on through.
in terms of reporting them, cops don't seem to care unless an accident occurrs or they personally view a law breaker.

Call and report an accident. I live in a large city, and if all of us started calling the police over things like traffic violations or barking dogs and the like, the police could never get anything done. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.

Traffic infractions must be witnessed by the police issuing the citation. If you feel there is a consistent pattern of violations at a particular location, you should call the local PD and express your concern. This might result in more coverage of the area.

yeah if you have their plate # you can call & report it. doubt it's gonna do much good though unless a cop sees it happen. i see people do illegal moves in cars everytime i get on the road. it's part of driving, just be aware of the other idiots & learn to deal with it.

The individuals involved say that the rock was loose anyway and posed a serious hazard, so they just helped it on its way in the name of saving lives (although given the tone of the vid I'd say they did it for the lulz and quickly came up with that, that's just my take). Anyway, I want to hear your take - were they right or wrong in toppling a 170 million year old formation and should criminal charges be filed?
