Why do people complain about the most random of things?

Like complaining about stuff they don't own, just because they think it's overrated? Or complaining about things that, in all likelihood, won't EVER affect them or anyone they know?

Why don't they just not buy the item?

Update:

I wasn't complaining, just wondering why people do this. Pointing out ridiculousness is not complaining. Just don't understand it.

I live with a person like that. My mother. I took a dozen psych courses to try to understand her better. Basically there may be an insecurity issue that evolves in the criticism of things that in no way shape or form would ever effect them. Other cause is jealousy. They know they may never be able to afford that item and rather than just say they would like to have it, but can't afford it -- It is easier for them to just criticize the person for having it as a way of not admitting or recogizing they can never afford it. There are other underlying reasons of course. Personally, I have learned to not even associate with these type of people. Too negative and critical to waste my time with them. I'd love to own a red convertible w/black leather interior. Can I afford it? Nope. Maybe never will. But I can only look at those who do own my dream car and say "Lucky SOB. Maybe one day."

  • In today's society, people don't have as much control over other aspects of their lift such as family, children, etc. and so they try to take control of the consumer market. People want their voice and opinion to be heard. Sometimes it becomes false accusations too. We all tend to complain about things which we don't own. Maybe some of us want to own these objects but we can't because we can't afford it or something. Whatever the reason may be, a lot of people don't have anything else better to do so they waste their time doing that. But why are you complaining about people complaining? It's just a circle getting wider and wider.

I believe human unhappiness can be traced to seven sources... Pride, Anger, Greed, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, and Sloth. I can't think of any bad (or evil) thing that doesn't contain one or a combination of these things. People point fingers and say 'they knew better!' Not necessarily. All I know is what works for me in my own life. If I knew a better way to live, I'd be living it! So all I can do is what I know, from my own experience. Thanks.

because then they would have nothing to talk about. most people have nothing in their lives because they're deicated to this half *** materialistic society we live in, and they think possessions are the only thing that will ever make them happy, and when you live like that your conversations lose content. and purpose.

I hope you realize the irony in the fact that your diatribe was delivered as, in fact, a complaint.
