Do you think baseball should have instant replay?

I cant stand when bad calls are made, especially when they are glaringly obvious... so in that respect, I think instant replay could help in Major League Baseball. On the other hand, I think it would ruin the game if it were overused (not to mention make the games alot longer). Maybe a nice compromise, where it could only be used in certain situations... what do you think?

Update:

Holy sarcasm "Gene H"... I dont think that using instant replay on some of the disputed calls constitutes "computerizing" baseball.

Absolutely not. Aren't there enough opportunities for standing around and doing nothing already in baseball?

Don't get me wrong, I say that with love.

I'm a bit of a purist. I tend to think that even when the umps get it wrong, they realize it and "make it up" to the other team later in the game. Only very rarely are bad calls the deciding factor in games.

If I saw the instant replay being greatly used in the NFL, I might change my mind. But it seems like most of the time the cameras don't have a clear angle, or the tape doesn't show definitive proof that the wrong call was made, so the original one stands - and the only thing that really changes is that we've all lost seven minutes of our lives.

No, keep instant replay out of baseball. There's nothing true baseball fans enjoy more than rehashing old injuries. Being angry at umps is a time-honored tradition.

As a baseball player, I wouldn't want any instant replay used, but if I had to choose one situation it would be in the playoffs and only on plays where out of the 6 umpires on the field none could get a good enough view to know exactly what happened.

In the playoffs there are 2 additional umpires, one in left field and one in right field. I'm talking about a call where if a ball hits the top of the wall or goes over but its at an angle where none of them can see, then I could see a valid argument about adding instant replay.

OH you mean since things like how the Rockies got screwed over happen all the time. The Phillies are in a tie for the wild card right now because 2 weeks ago one of their fans interfered with a ball that should have been a homerun but the umps blew the call and this cost the rockies the game, and a game in the standings. UMMMMMMMMMMM DUHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Heads need to roll if a bad call puts the Phillies in and leaves the Rockies out.

I could stand it for plays at the outfield walls or foul poles only. The wall is the part of the field furthest from any ump (even in the playoffs with the extra line umps) and where the game can change the quickest.

If the ball reaches the warning track on the fly, IR can be used if either manager deems it necessary. No other situations.

Yea i agree wit u, it would help so much m they could see cloes calls while baserunning, and yes i agree that it might be overused and make the game alot longer so i think they should have a limited amount of times the instant replay cna be used, like challenges in the NFL, a coach and challenge a play but only twice, i think the MLB should use this method and install instant replay, Good question. My suggestion is no more than 3-5 challenges per game

I think it would be good. I've seen some really bad calls throughout the season against all teams. The one that stands out in my mind was J.D Drews home run off the green monster.. But , There has to be some kind of penalty for over using the replay. Not sure what it should be.. automatic out maybe?

No, because the games are too long anyway. A deal like that would just make a game longer.

One thing that would help to shorten a game is..... IF a team wanted to walk a certain batter, it should be allowed that the pitcher signal the home plate umpire, and the batter automatically goes to first base, without all those four pitches that they throw. This would shorten the game.

sorry but NO. having instant replay would detract from rivalries among fans. baseball is the game of inches. not mathematical inches than can be frezee framed on TV. but eyeball inches. it adds to the excitement.

didnt get the cal lyou wanted. try hitting it out of the park or hitting it at the ump who made the bad call.

    come on guys!!!

remember tag.....when you KNEW you touched thier shirt. but they didnt feel it and no one had a good angle to see it so you were stil lit. imagine kids with instant replays on that!!! not so fun!!!

baseball is about being a kid...doing what you did your whole life. kep that screen off my diamond!!!!

No, thank you. Instant replay hasnt stopped nfl refs from making bad calls, and it's usually a big waste of time. I like baseball as it is.

They do on TV, but the umps don't watch them. I think that the calls are just how they are. I love baseball and my cousin was on the triple A team for the Braves! He always says just deal with the bad calls and next time you will have a different ump.
