Is a 2 stroke engine of a motorcycle more durable than a 4 stroke ?

No but some 2 strokes are very durable. The air-cooled Suzuki 500 Titan from the 70's was VERY durable, as was the water-cooled Suzuki 750 from the same era. 2 strokes used to have a reputation for fouling plugs or seizing but I don't often hear that anymore. Not sure which would outlast the other in the long haul, but I'd be inclined to bet on the four stroke.

we cannot measure engine durability thru this so called stroke cycle,,engine durability depends upon the materials used and the manner it is designed..
for a comparison, 4 stroke last longer in between overhaul than 2 stroke engines,,
because in 4 stroke, the piston cools down in between cycles so it is not prone to overheating,,
whereas in 2 stroke, everytime a piston is on top it fires,,so little time of piston cooling, reducing piston and ring service life
the advantage of 2 stroke engines,is their simplicity in design when used on motorcycles,,
but many motorcycle users know these,, 2 strokes smokes.

A 2 stroke has way fewer parts to go bad and easier to fix them all, but piston and rings need to be replaced much more offten. So NO, overall a 4 stroke will be more durable.

A friend of mine was looking to buy a dirt bike. I went with him to a couple different dealerships. At both places, they would let him test ride about every 4 stroke they had, but wouldn't let him even start a 2 stroke. One dealer said something about having to replace the "jug" on the 2 strokes as part of the reason. ( I think he was talking about the cylinder liner)

4 strokes last longer as far as less ring and cylinder maintenance, have better gas mileage but are slower and heavier than a 2 stroke also they are less polluting. If you want a bike to do some serious dirt riding go with 2 stroke, if you want it for the highway go with 4 stroke.

2 strokes require more frequent servicing and oil changes. They deliver a high output at the cost of longevity. So I would say a 4 stroke is more durable.

It all depends on how you treat it, they are able to rev higher and take a little more abuse excellent lower end power, but again, if your oil to gas ratio is correct along with your air mix, they run real well. Four strokes are better for higher end power and overall smooth performance........to each there own.
Two strokes can be alot fun.........

Yes , the two stroke engines are more durable , they have their piston block made in cast iron alloys . where as the four stroke engines are aluminium and light metal alloys so the durability is less .

Who cares about durability? It's all about speed! What ever is fastest must be the best.
