Buxtons a bit isolated but if you've got a car you can explore the surroundings. Go up kinder scout, its a dry waterfall and thereis a great walk up there. Go visit the old hospital, now part of the university. Go to castelton and down the old blue john mines, thats definiteley worth a visit. There's also an opera house and theatre in buxton which has some stuff on in the evenings.

Various show caves in Castleton, Blue John mine as someone has suggested, Speedwell mine, where you go in on a boat, or Peak cavern where you can go into the Devils ****, loads of walking try Cheedale going down the river on the stepping stones, or Dovedale, Buxton Opera house for the evening

Hey Mike,
Take a good book, strong boots and a kite! Then you can go yomping through the rolling hills etc.
Alternatively, spend all day on his computer downloading porn (don't forget to clear the history!) ;o)
I've found this site invaluable when I go anywhere (thought the maps aren't great)

Have a great week with your mate - I'm down the south coast viviting at the moment and it's great to be in touristy areas when there aren't so many tourists about!

do the Heights of Abraham, you take a cable car with great views then at the top there are caves and other stuff to look at. Take a bus or drive to Matlock which is a quaint place with little shops and a riverside to walk along. Also lots of old houses to look at, Chatsworth is beautiful. Hope the weather is good for you

Another endorsement for Castleton - walk up the castle overlooking the town, and make sure you walk up to Mam Tor, the ancient Iron-age hill fort on the mountain opposite the village.
If you like grand houses then they don't come grander than Chatsworth House.
