Should the Philippine Government approve the JPEPA treaty?

No. The Philippine Senate must JUNK JPEPA.

Pursuant to the Constitution, the Senators can only cast a YES or a NO vote for this treaty. The Senate has no power to make amendments or modifications. They can either accept it or reject it, as a whole.\

1. It includes toxic, hazardous, and nuclear wastes in the list of tradable goods. These wastes were specifically deleted in the 2003 working draft of the JPEPA but nevertheless found their way into the final draft.

2. It will extend national treatment to Japanese investors for 11 investment-related activities but only prohibits the relaxation of environmental laws to just 3 activities.

3. It allows for the importation of used cars despite clear laws against it. This provision is not found in the other EPAs of Japan.

4. It will increase unemployment in the agriculture sector and decrease agriculture wages.
