It stands for "A"nti-"A"liasing -- which is a method of filtering used by the graphics adapter card (either AGP, PCI, or PCI-Express) which enhances the view of objects edges in graphics applications to reduce jagged edges and clear up outline definitions of charachters from player images to texts that might appear. Not sure how well it affects non-fullscreen apps......but works nicely with a higher end card like some of the newer nVidia cards and ATI's as well. I wanted to say that theres one thing I dont know is if it worked in practical application starting with openGL, like before MS went nuts with DirectX.....I guess I'll Google that then now eh? LoL -Chris

heres a quote from the website referencing this info below--->

"One of the most important techniques in making graphics and text easy to read and pleasing to the eye on-screen is anti-aliasing. Anti-aliasing is a cheaty way of getting round the low 72dpi resolution of the computer monitor and making objects appear as smooth as if they'd just stepped out of a 1200dpi printer (nearly)."
