Brave New world (Huxley) and Fahrenheit 451(Bradbury) are both books that deal like 1984 with the "Utopian Society". Both books deal with a man and this man's place in society like 1984. In the books " Brave New world (Huxley) and Fahrenheit 451(Bradbury)" there is still a group of people unaffected by the changes in society. For example in brave new world there is still an indigenous society unaffected by the changes- they have marriage and religion and in Fahrenheit they have the people who memorize the books. In all these three books the main character become unable to conform to the societies standard.

well, there's a novel called "we" that has the same kind of theme as 1984, and i've heard it was kind of a spark for orwell's idea.

there's lots and lots of different takes on this "false-utopia" theme. if you go to amazon.com and either click the box that says you own this book or add it to your cart they'll suggest other books that are similar.

I was going to suggest the two which Mef suggested. Orwell also did Animal Farm, if you enjoy his writing style. I also enjoyed A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller.
