Does anyone have some good information about getting tickets to the 2008 Beijing Olympics?

I know more tickets will go on sale this October, but was it

easy/hard to get them earlier, and what requirements are

there to purchase them?

You can contact Jet Set Sports and buy them as well. Jet Set provides packages to the Olympic Games. There are different waves for pricing. The Opening Ceremonies are the hardest to get.

    Good luck!

A lot of people don't realize it but some of the normal aftermarket ticket sites are already selling tickets to the events in Beijing. If you purchase tickets from these sites make sure to use a reputable one such as SeatBOT.com or Ticket Master. Careful of the Ticket Master "service fees" they tend to kill you on events like the olympics... I put a link to the seatbot olympic games section in the sources of this answer.
