There's a optin setting in it to do that (if I was rude I'd just say "RTFM!!!"). Or you can manually do the things suggested.
I personally now prefer Trillian, but Pidgin is ok too - they chew up less resources and cause fewer crashes.

1. Log in to YM
2. Click "Messenger"
3. Click "Preferences" (or you can press Ctrl+Shift+P)
4. In the "General" category, uncheck the box that says "Automatically sign into my Yahoo! Messenger"
5. Click Apply. The next time you open your computer, YM won't automatically pop up anymore

Start Yahoo! Messenger > at the top left, click Messenger > click Preferences > under where it says Category, click General > under where it says When I start up my computer, un-check the box beside Automatically start Yahoo! Messenger > click Apply and OK.

You need to change your settings in that program. Go to options before you close it out next time!

Turn it off, and take it out of ''Startup''.
