"ABS" light and "ETS OFF" light staying lit. Chevrolet Cavalier?
I drive a '97 automatic Chevrolet Cavalier, and the ABS and ETS OFF light are not going away. I do not have the manual for it, so if someone could tell me what it means, that would be cool. I know ABS is something to to with the anti-lock brakes, but I do not now what ETS is.
"I do not now" should be "know"

the ets light is electronic traction control when the computer sees a problem in the system it shuts down both systems and turns the light on you will need to have the computer scanned to see what the problem is they are bad for wheel speed sensors

I was searching for information and found your question.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier, and from day one I have had the ABS light coming on and the car doing strange things. I cannot count the number of times it has been taken to the dealer, and they could not find the problem.
Well good news, the little booger came on this weekend and stayed on. I took to the dealer this morning and left for the day. It finally put a code into the computer system telling them it is the brake module. So I just found out it is the "electronic brake module" or "the brain of the braking system" which is defective. They have ordered this part to install. I cannot even imagine how expensive this would be after my car goes out of warranty in December of this year. Just curious. Have you had unusual wear on the brakes of your car also? I have had to replace the brakes more frequently than I should, and I suspect this could be the problem with that as well.
Get your car checked right away!

I owned a Chevy Cavalier too. lived in a snow state.
the sensors at the wheels may be faulty and the CPU can not read them so it kicks on the lights. the over all operation of the system are effected but the car will still drive good. to see if the ABS is still working with the light on
Find a back road and drive the car up to 45 mph than slam on the brakes, if the car locks up than the ABS is Disabled
With Mine the light was on but my system still worked which meant i Had a Faulty light and the system was fine.

You need to have that scanned to pinpoint the problem. With both lights on, be prepared to be told that your ABS pump, or the Electronic Brake Control Module will have to be replaced. Sometimes, the pump and the module are integrated, as well as, relays, solenoids, and circuits that failed and set the code are also only serviceable by replacing the module. If it were a wheel speed sensor, more than likely you would only have an ABS or ETS light on.

yep either you have a problem with your anti lock brake system or your traction control system they are both inter linked so if one doesn't work then both shut off
