Who make the worst mothers in law?the mother of the wife or the mother of the husband?

We can n ot generalise, it is relative..

But according to the mediterranean mentality= greek too, the side of the husband.This, because the daughter is not seperated so much from the mother, but the son who is always attached to the mother goes away with another woman.The result is that he starts being attached to the wifes family, so the mother is losing her control on him, thinking that another woman has taken her son...

This is a dominating mentality, and i repeat we can not always generalise

Again really not fair to generalize. I think it appears as the mother of the husband ONLY because a lot of the daughter-in-laws are jealous and controlling. Women tend to do more complaining so you hear more about it from them. A lot of wives don't want to share "their man" with anyone. Especially his mom, the woman that actually brought him into this world!

Most of the husband's tend to not make such a big deal over petty issues. They are more likely to take things in stride. Therefore you do not hear about it being as much an issue with them.

Women are more emotional and can make a mountain out of a mole hill. Little things become huge issues when their husband doesn't agree with them. Right or wrong.

Usually the mother of the husband is causing more problems, but -can you believe it???- in my case it is my mother (the mother of the woman) that causes problems.

She is something of Alexis- of Dynasty if you remember. With her "help" once we almost divorced! That's why I am living in a place that is quite distant from my mother's home.

The mother of the husband? Just like doesn't exist, my husband don't let her say a single word, she is very much afraid of him....

On the other hand, I feel sake for my brother's fiance, she will have enormous problems with our mother...

Well some let the smiling face and courtesy of the "being nice"-mother of wife really believe this is not possible, but they are terribly wrong!!! She 's the chess queen, making all the moves, while everybody is being busy with accusing mother of the husband...pure prejudices...hmmmm!

I know some in laws who are very nice to their sons or daughters in law but i think generally mothers of the husbands are more "interesting"...

I tend to agree with the views of most of the posters. Generally, the mother of the husband is more likely to be the culprit because she tends to put the son on a pedestal and does not want to lose him (especially only son) to another woman.

The mother of the husband 99.9% of the cases. Wife's moms are not so painful... it is a psychological thing, have you ever heard of the Complex of Oedipos?

But from the stories I have heard, mothers of husbands are usually more attached to their sons, making the life of the wife somewhat difficult!

I don't think we can overgeneralize and say one or the other. Of course it depends on the person. Sometimes it is the mother of the wife, and sometimes the mother of the husband. Don't you agree?
