The regulations vary from airline to airline. Most airlines limit the number of 'cabin pets' on each flight. Pets must be in an airline approved carrier that fits under the seat infront of you. Most airlines limit the weight of the pet at 20 pounds. You will also have to have a health certificate from the vet issued no more than 2 weeks prior to the flight. For most airlines, the carrier counts as one of your carry on bags. If your pet becomes disruptive during the flight, you can and possibly will be removed from the flight. Many airlines charge a fee for cabin pets.

Keep in mind that you will need to limit your pet's food and water intake for at least 12 hours prior to the flight. Also, most airports don't have potty areas for pets. Pets are required to remain in their carriers during the duration of the flight, as well as in the terminal.

Call your airline for their policies.

Air travel is very stressful on animals and you should really consider leaving your pet at home if possible.

A few airlines do, but not all. If they don't allow the pet in the cabin, it is normally carried as part of the normal baggage allowance on domestic flights. If you are on an international flight, completely different arrangements generally apply, and the pet cannot travel with you. Depending on the destination, it will go into quarantine before being allowed into the country.

You need to check with your airline on the kennel you are taking with you as well.

It must be approved for air travel and you need to make sure it is small enough to fit under the seat in front of you.

I work in the airline business and can't count the amt. of times folks have shown up at the airport and had a kennel that was to big to fit under the seat. Not all airlines have kennels on hand at the airport to sell you either.

Yes, but you have to make a reservation for the pet in advance as there is usually a limit of one to a cabin and you will have to pay a fee which varies according to the airline

I have flown on Delta, British Air, Finn Air, and Lufthansa, and I have seen small dogs and cats on each of those airlines. They are Trans Atlantic flights, so their might be different rules for in the USA. check the website of the carrier you are flying.
