I am looking for a mac adapter and I need suggestions...?

I am looking for an adapter for a mac desktop computer. It needs to link to an existing wireless router. I am not familiar with macs. Anybody have a suggestion on what might work.

There are usually two answers: an internal card, or an external (USB) adapter.

    (1) Internally, for Macintoshes, the key is the Airport card - their special wireless card that is compatible with the b/g formats (802.11b / 802.11g are their FULL names...). The question is: WHICH desktop Mac do you need it for?

Hint: there is a shareware package called Mactracker available on the Web (http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/) - and there's a PC-compatible version. Give it the Macintosh info and it can tell you if the unit has a slot for an Airport (802.11b) or Airport Extreme (802.11g) card. If the unit already has one (have the Mac User check the System Profiler program they have ON THEIR MAC - it's in the hard drive using the path Applications => Utilities => System Profiler.app) O.K.; if not, you may have to check on eBay.

    (2) Unfortunately, there are (probably) no current USB options - not because the Mac doesn't have USB (they DO!), but almost all the manufacturers of the wireless USB adapters DIDN'T write Mac-compatible drivers for them (!). Although it's a long shot, you MIGHT get help from Belkin (at (800) 2-BELKIN) for any possible options.

    I hope this helps...
