If I were you- and I have been in such a predicament, I would first check to see if the mouse is connected to the computer correctly. Next, if it is conncected properly there is a ball on the bottom of the mouse that might have to be refreshed. Carefully take apart the bottom and take out the little ball and replace it. See if this will correct and solve your problem.

Sometimes the ball of the mouse need to be cleaned- yes cleaned you have to take it out and clean it with alcohol. Windows does give directions on this. If you have a laser or wireless mouse make sure it is attatched or your computer recognizes the device.
