Using Files and Settings Transfer Wizard...?
I used the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard [TW] to copy all the files on my C:drive to an ext. hdd - before formatting theb C-drive.
The TW went through all the motions of compressing the files to the ext. hdd - and back again when I used TW to put them back on the laptop, so I saw it doing what it does - but cannot find the files on my hdd! Anyone got any non-computer speak/geek tips on how to find them?

try doing a search for one of the file names. Another thing you can try is not using the TW and just drag and drop the files to the folder where you want it. The ext hd should show up as a removable drive when its plugged in to the desktop.
