Yes, you have to learn to use a manual transmission with a CDL. However, they teach you how in their trucks at the school, and that is what they get paid to do. It is worth the cost of the classes to learn and to go on the road. I assume you have already researched this and have seen how much money truck drivers can potentially make.

No one is hopeless with a manual, it's just a bit difficult to learn, once you get the "feel" for it, you won't want to drive an automatic ever again. I still drive a stick, and I've bummed out my left leg. I hate automatics, I like the gas savings and the control of my own transmission / speed of acceleration. AND I'm a girl! Just messing with ya! It's really not so hard.

I wish you the best of luck.

    Blessings

Yes, they closest to an automatic are the newer push button transmissions. Very few semis are hard to drive since they have such a low gear ratio and pretty much take off without any gas when leaving into first gear.

yea you do because all of the big truck i have seen have 18-28 speed transmissions. usually because the gears are so close together you dont allways have to use the clutch.
