No not really unless transmission is somehow abused.. Most failures I've seen in last few years trucks , unless a electrical part has gone out, has been due to heavy duty abuse such as jacked up trucks or hauling in O/D when you are supposed to be in D
Most I've seen have had about 100k miles on them, and usually in vehicles pulling trailers in overdrive
The taurus transmissions did have some pattern failures in them
The transmission on the Escape was replaced the way it was as the first 6 months after a new vehicle release, Ford calls back all transmissions for damage inspections to see if their are some pattern failure problems.. There is a tag on those transmissions to that fact.

Ford has been known to have a lot of transmission problems especially in the bigger vehicles. We owned a 2000 Ford F150, it was a great truck and sure enough in the first 20,000 miles we needed to have expensive repairs done on the transmission. We just bought a Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab and have put 10,000 miles on it 7,500 miles of which were hauling a 30 foot custom made horse trailer. No transmission problems so far.

I bought a 2001 Ford Escape in July of 2001. In December 2001 my transmission went out as I was going down the road at 55mph. Luckily it just slowed to a stop. Only gear I had was reverse. Had it taken to the dealership. The Ford company wouldnt even let the dealership try to find out what was wrong and never would tell them or me why it went out. Since it was under warranty they just put a new one in. Never had a problem with it after that. But neither me nor the dealership was ever told why it went out after only 6 months.

It's not just the trucks; my Taurus' transmission went out and my warranty ran out at 30,000 miles: My car had 36,000 miles on it. I think everyone I've ever known that owned a Ford for more than 2 years had transmission problems.
