It took me over an hour to do it. Use pure acetone in a glass bowl.

You need to buy a bottle of 100% acetone (available at most drug stores or Wal-Mart). Pour a small amount into a shallow GLASS bowl. Do not use plastic, or it will melt! Place the nail tips in the acetone. The acetone will soften the acrylic gradually. After a few minutes, check the nail tips to see if you can peel them off your natural nail. Do not force the tips off, or you can damage your natural nail! If you can't peel off the tips easily, soak the nail tips for a few more minutes. Continue the cycle of soaking, checking, and peeling until you've removed all the acrylic nail tips from your natural nails. Dispose of the use acetone properly, according to the directions on the container. Wash your hands with soap and water. It wouldn't hurt to use a good moisturizer on your hands, especially around your natural nails after using the acetone. It should take about an hour to remove a full set of nails, if the acrylic nails aren't too long.

First of all, you'll want to use acetone to accomplish the job. Most drugstore "nail polish removers" don't contain acetone any longer, so you might need to buy acetone from a beauty supply shop or look at each brand of polish remover to see if any contain acetone at all.

Pour it into a glass dish and dip your nails a few at a time. Usually the acrylic will soften within 3-4 minutes... You're not going to melt it, of course... you're just going to soften the material enough so that you can pull or peel it off. It may take several minutes before you can peel them. Just check every couple of minutes..

Once the "tips" are off, wash your hands well with a soft soap and water, dry, then use a nail buffer to smooth the nail bed and an emory board to shape whatever nail tip you have left. After your nails are smooth again, apply a couple of coats of a good nail strengthener. Your hands/fingers will be *very* dry so be sure to use lot's of rich hand cream for the next few days!

    Good Luck!

First off: NEVER, EVER pry your nails off like some people said to do. This WILL damage your natural nails, and it will cause you a lot of unnecessary pain as well. The only safe, and the most effective way to remove acrylics is to soak them off in slightly heated PURE acetone - not polish remover. Be VERY, VERY careful heating acetone as it is highly flammable. Do NOT put it in a pot and heat it on the stove, especially a gas stove! Forget the microwave. Insead, take two small bowls. Make sure one is just slightly larger than the other. Fill the larger one half way with hot water. Place some pure acetone into the smaller bowl until it is deep enough to cover your nails ONLY - and NO higher than that (about 3/4"). Then, carefully place the acetone filled bowl into the bowl with the hot water. The water will heat the acetone. Heated acetone works faster than does cool acetone. Heat helps speed things up a lot. Clip the tips of your nails off as short as you can get them without damaging your natural nail underneath. Then, take a 150-180 grit nail file, and file off some of the acrylic nails to remove some of the bulk, and to rough them up for the acetone to work better, and faster. Then soak for about a half hour. It may take up to an hour to soak them off. If they are still not coming off, then the chances are very good that you went to a very cheap salon that used a hazardous substance called MMA on your nails. This garbage is next to impossible to remove. If this happens, you will need to go to a highly skilled nail tech who has dealt with MMA removal before. It will take about 3 hours to remove MMA nails. Do NOT let ANY tech ever pry your acryic, or gel nails off. This is not how to remove them. As far as MMA goes, I say really cheap salons - called 'discount' salons use it quite often because it is so very cheap to buy. It is also VERY hazardous to you and your nails. In fact, this has been banned by the FDA for use on nails for almost 25 years now. But, so very many of the cheap chop shops still use it and totally disregard the laws. They simply don't care. Always avoid this type of salon. If you are paying like $25 or less for a full set of nails, and there is a big time language barrier,, you are in a discount salon for sure. It's some pretty bad stuff. I hope you don't have that on your nails...

It shouldn't take that long. Make sure you use acetone to do it and maybe put some pebbles or something like that in a glass to higher the level without wasting the product. Make sure you put it in something glass, it will melt plastic!
