Why is it, when presenters read the weather on TV?

that they have to work against a blank screen behind them. Why aren't the maps etc, that we can see, visible to them.

The maps are visible to them on monitors that are just off-screen to their left and right. They stand in front of a green screen and allow computer generated images to make up the background scenery for the particular segment they are presenting at that moment.

It's easier for computer generated graphics to change quickly from one scene to another than to physically change them.

    Nice answer, Brooke.

if forecasters were standing in front of the maps, the viewers couldn't see the maps!

otherwise the quality of the maps and stuff wouldn't be good enough
