1) I cant apply a jpeg picture as desktop wallpaper & 2) I cant save a DVD & burn it onto a blank one?

My system is Vista

1) Naturally Ive tried doing this the usual way via control panel & 'personalise' etc, but no good.

2) I can play my DVD on Media Center, but then what? I want to then save it somehow & burn it onto a blank DVD-R.

Maybe your jpeg image is too large (too high resolution), which is often the problem. If the image is huge, it probably can't be used. I guess I don't know about the "personalize" option. I think you might not be dong it correctly, but I have XP here at work. Here's what I do:

Control Panel - Display - Desktop tab - Browse (to find your jpeg image), or just scroll down the list that comes up if it's there.

I don't know about the DVD burning question. My guess would be, unless you have a DVD drive AND and external DVD drive, is to save the contents of the DVD to your desktop, then burn that to a blank DVD.
