I would never underestimate Pentax. I started using them with the camera that came out before the Spotmatic came out in 1967 and loved them. Their glass might well be better than any of their competitors except Olympus. Pentax and Olympus are both under-rated. The success of Nikon and Canon has more to do with brand identity than anything else, but that is really of little consequence when it comes to the finish product. With my Pentax and my Olympus cameras no one has ever been able to identify what camera that they came out of.

Since I have been wedded to the Pentax system for the last 40 odd years, then I I think it is great. Currently I use an ist*DS which is fine, but when I need/can afford to upgrade I'll probably go for a K10D or whatever has replaced it. You see, I believe it's the photographer, not the hardware he/she uses, that takes great pictures, and have no hankering to go for a Canon or Nikon.

Pentax has been making leaps and bounds in the DSLR market. Their K10D, K100D, K110D series of cameras are way better than their *istD line.

In my rankings, I normally rate them 2nd, with Nikon/Canon sharing the first spot together.

I'd probably put Sony next with their A100 and A700 and Olympus dead last.
