Train him on a newspaper, then put it in the yard. Take him outside to the paper for potty trips throughout the day. Praise him for going outside, and he'll learn quickly. A doggy door is a good investment, and will keep your door from getting scratched.

I got a jack russell when she was 2 months old and she was trained in honestly 4 to 6 days. Whether shes a quick learner or not, thats fast. Take your dog out frequently, then when they go you need to instantly give them a treat or praise. And bring them back inside as if your saying thats why we go outside therefore if they are an inside dog, Period that is it. if they go inside you stand firm and say w/e "no bad girl" show them what they did and put them outside.
