Can anyone help with this?

I am getting a really annoying email problem, regularly I am getting two repeated icons of what look like a speaker and a circle with a cross in it. My computer then locks up and I have to pull the plug to do anything else. I think it says something like 'flagged message' or something. It happens after looking at a few mails, and I have noticed that if there is something in the bulk folder, its worse (one site I am on let spammers in so I'm wondering if its a virus or something)

help anyone?

Update:

eek should have said, its a MAC computer and I'm looking at emails online, it is not actually on my machine.

Update 2:

and again LOL - you can tell I'm hopeless at this, the emails that I do look at are fine, I know everyone who is sending them. Also I can look at an email and its fine, two minutes later it will do this on the same mail.

Its random, I can look at maybe two to five mails and then it kicks in, on any screen email related.

    trojan is trying to hack in under the pretence of an anti virus , so disinfect and, down lode, antivirus, but you better to by Dise and do it properly, for peace pf mind , then no worry hope you are OK with it soon,

    It sounds like a virus... if u downloaded a sweeper called RegCure u might have a Trojan virus. Very confusing and if cant figure it out, u may want to bring it in where u bought it, along with ur receipt

    in windows mail i get those type of icons with the word WARNING...it has tagged an email as potentially hazardous or as a virus. i simply highlite the email and delete it.

    if you do not open the email you will not have any problems, just delete it.

    i havent a clue but does your puter have a sound card?

    you email may be trying to play sound

    you could try cleaning you pc with super anti spyware (there is a free version) it worked on my pc
