The screen's backlight drains the most battery power. If possible on your iPod, set the backlight to a lower setting. Also, try to use the backlight as little as possible.
The effect of reduced backlight usage is substantially increased battery life. If you have been using the screen's backlight heavily, using the above techniques will put you back at 8 hours.
Hope this helps and best of luck!

After about ??500 hours?? of playing it will drain 30 mins of the 8 hrs for the battery. If you think the amount if not suffient enough for your use you may have to buy a backup battery

Drain the battery completely and then charge it until it says full. Not much longer. Sometimes prolonged time on the charger will start a decharge on it. You may need a new battery.
