Early or late, most sites open beginning of March and close end of October so come any time from March to May and either September or October. I usualy don't get bitten but this year have been eaten alive yet people say there aren't many of the little blighters about! If you do come there's a little garage at Greenod that sells a spray that is really great at keeping the monsters at bay!

The best time to visit the Lake District - or anywhere in the UK for that matter - is when there are NO caravans.
The roads in Cumbria are narrow enough without the added hassle of caravans. If you must come and visit, choose a site outside the National Park (i.e. Penrith) and then just use your car.
As for the midges, spring is probably the best time to avoid them.

The midges are worse during th hotter summer months, I went camping lke district several times and found t more enjoyable in September as it was later in the year and not as many insects about. That was last year, and although we had a late summer this year, i think it would be okay to go now. Have fun.

You should go early in the year like spring because the midges will have died during the winter and the baby midges are still at the larva stage. Go then or take day trips and leave before 6pm

Probably early or late in the year, saying that though we still have midges now.

Either May or Oxctober are the bvest time for colour, ease of travelling and peade and tranquillity. But my personal favourite is January. It's quite cold on the hills and by the lakes and the air is quite breathtaking - not to mention the atmosphere.
