Police Brutality and Racism?

I just viewed a news video of a police officer punching a girl he was arresting after she tried to BITE him. Allegation-Police Brutality.

Next, the "Jena 6" 6 black men beat a white in front of dozens of witness arrested and charged with attempted murder--Are the charges Racism?

Now Obama says too many blacks going to prison. Is he proposing a quota system on prison sentences? Is it racism for a black to go to jail after being convicted of a crime?

So, what about responsibility--It is NOT racism if you are sent to prison for a crime you committed. It is NOT police brutality, if you assault someone and they fight back. GET A CLUE! Criminal conduct should be punished. Because you are a minority does NOT give you the right to commit crime nor assault another. Or am I missing something? You do the crime, do the time. Don't try to hurt another, they might hit you!

It is NOT racism to arrest Illegal Aliens--READ IT--ILLEGAL aliens--they violated the law.

Skywalker: Your antipathy towards police officers and law enforcement is evident in your statements "…an officer can do anything he wants to effect an arrest and should a suspect so much as involuntarily sneeze, it gives the policeman the right to beat, kill whatever the victim." And "When you are 3 times the size of your victim and 2 to 3 times their age, when they are female and you are male and the female is hysterical and did nothing more than stay out too late, somewhere in their little pea brain should enter the thought that you don't treat a child this way." (The child was 15 and the officer was certainly NOT 3 times the size) and the use of the term "VICTIM" in your statement "The whole purpose behind the restraining of a victim is to protect the police from harm." Further illustrates your dislike of police officers. And when you talk about your friend with MS who "walks awkwardly" was being questioned by officers because the officer thought he might be a drunk driver and your comment "Thank God, ….that cop detained him for an excessive period of time, humiliated him…" the officer "let him go without physically assaulting my friend." Your assumption being that the officer, "Cops get so caught up in their absolute authority" would naturally assault your friend. The fact is that the young person did in fact violate the law, was being taken into custody, did resist arrest, and did attempt to assault the officer. Your own bias is showing through.

I think it has gotten quite out of hand, but not really for the same reason that the other answerers provided.

These are local incidents, and should be handled as such. We have no business there, we have no reason to even give an opinion. The fact that national media even airs it is wrong. Air it on local stations, the rest of the nation honestly has no business giving an opnion.

When the national media gets ahold of things, it gets way out of proportion, and Al Sharpton runs to the scene to further mess it up lol

I saw the video on CNN regarding the 15 yr old girl who was stopped for curfew violation, then pepper-sprayed for biting the officer while he was detaining her.

She's violating an ordinance, a UNIFORMED officer stops her, then she resists, and assaults an officer... she got what she deserved

What TRULY amazed ME was her Aunt raging that the girl hadn't been read her rights at that point... yet CNN doesn't have the honesty to point out that Law Enforcement isn't REQUIRED to read Miranda UNTIL they begin to QUESTION YOU IN CUSTODY.

Screw Racism... where is COMMON SENSE?

I also laugh at the Obama issue (and others push it also)... what about the fact that a disproportionate number of blacks are the folks COMMITTING the crimes

Skywalker: I propose a question to you. Please do your best to answer the question with intelligence and logic. Please do not go off on a tangent that is not the answer to the questions. Thank You.

You are Officer Skywalker and are called to a suspicious circumstance in area B. You have prior knowledge that other Officers' have been physicallly attacked with flying bricks and bottles, some hospitalized. In route you are told that no officer back up will be availble for more then 1 hour. Upon your arrival you observe a female aproximately 5'7" 169 lbs holding a brick and acting very aggitated. Witnesses tell you that they think she broke several car windshields and that she has been threatening to strike them with the brick if they didn't leave. You know it is your duty to protect those citizens and the private property that has and/or will be destroyed. The female will not talk rationally to you, threatons to strike you with the brick, and begans to walk toward you and the witnesses holding the brick in the air. Please explain in full how you handle this situation.

    That's a famous line

(It's because I'm black) ''you are prejudice / racist''

It is used abusively rather there is real racism going on or not.I realize at times their is racism that takes place. But many are trying to use it to their advantage only to get out of their crime that they have committed.

I worked customer service at a retail store and our policy if you have a check over a 150.00 call it in you wouldn't be leave how many times I herd Your calling my check in because your prejudice. Guess what the bank told me the funds were not there and that I could not accept their check. They would scream and yell and cuss me that I am prejudice .

k_I_parrish; it’s just the way our sick society is these days!

We either wake up, or the anarchist fringe like skywalker, will pull us down into a new Dark Age run by the Taliban!

Oh, and getting bit by a freak with possibly AIDS, hepatitis, rabies, or some other disease will mean six moths of testing for the cop, if he’s lucky!

    i am amazed....just simply amazed.....

i saw that film of the girl being arrested...what the hell was her problem??? the officer told her to put her hands behind her back and she fights him???? is she insane???? SHE BIT HIM! was she on drugs??? is she mentally challenged??? is she insane???

and he, the policeman, is in trouble???? what is wrong with this picture??? when a policeman tells you to do something....i don’t think it means "kick and punch me, bite me and scream at me until i have to take you down to the ground and taz you"??

there are people upset because he subdued her?....where are their heads??? she needed to be subdued for goodness sakes! if she had just listened to the POLICEMAN... but noooooooooooooooooo..... and now he is in trouble??? what is up with that? don't we have policemen for a reason???

    and jena...my my my....

six beat up one and that is okay??? they don't get prosecuted??? because they are black??? and the one already has a rap sheet of violent acts???

where are the boundaries? why has it become acceptable for a person of color to break the law? why are we sliding back into racism? why are we allowing this to happen?

do we not yet understand that racism is ugly no matter what color is being discriminated against???

I never cease to be amazed at right wing mentality that an officer can do anything he wants to effect an arrest and should a suspect so much as involuntarily sneeze, it gives the policeman the right to beat, kill whatever the victim.

Cops get so caught up in their absolute authority that they forget they may be dealing with a child or a physically or mentally ill person.

The whole purpose behind the restraining of a victim is to protect the police from harm. When you're dealing with a hysterical 15 year old girl who broke curfew, you don't use excessive force to the point that you're likely to break the girls arm. You certainly don't punch the girl in the face and you don't use mace just to retaliate.

Some police need to get it through their thick skulls that you treat a child differently. When you are 3 times the size of your victim and 2 to 3 times their age, when they are female and you are male and the female is hysterical and did nothing more than stay out too late, somewhere in their little pea brain should enter the thought that you don't treat a child this way.

People will split down the middle in the way they see the video just as with Rodney King. I hope the girls parents sue the cops. The verdict could go either way. I hope this cop either realizes he did not behave properly and becomes a better cop or else a verdict comes back that he used excessive force under the circumstances. On a given day, this cop did his job very poorly, Thank God for all the professional, courageous cops out there who risk their lives daily to protect us.

I have a friend who has MS and he walks awkwardly. He pulled up to a gas station and stepped out of his car to pump gas. A cop pulled up and hassled him excessively because he thought he might be a drunk driver. Thank God, even though that cop detained him for an excessive period of time, humiliated him, he let him go without physically assaulting my friend
