Why do gold fish loose their color?

I have a gold fish that is starting to loose his golden color. It looks as though the pigment (do fish have pigment?) is turning white.

    1. Sometimes this is of malnurishment.

    2. Try switching up his foods by getting one with veggies, or tropical flavoring/additives.

    3. Any other signs or possibly a disease, check feices, water parameters are they all okay?

    4. Anyway I would do a 25% water change and then see what happens.

    - Sorry this is happening! If you need anything you can email me! Good luck :] -

EDIT: This could also be a sign of old age as some fish do do this.

Could be a skin infection, or just improper environment.

Despite common thought, goldfish can be very difficult to keep healthy. They prefer slightly brackish water (so I always added Kosher salt when changing water), and cool temperatures--like in the mid-60's--which isn't where most people keep their ambient home temperature. Feed a high quality food designed specifically for goldfish. Their nutritional needs are different from tropicals. Lastly, and this is more important than it sounds, invest in a high quality full spectrum bulb for your tank. Like humans, fish respond to light wavelengths. Under "natural" light your goldfish will turn the most lovely orange you've ever seen. Plus, full spectrum lighting induces algae growth, and goldfish love algae. Algae is a sign of a healthy tank, so don't ever let anyone tell you there shouldn't be any. (Of course, you know to keep the growth in check.)

greater possibly is that he's contaminated with some form of parasite or micro organism. Goldfish are infamous for there grime. while you're retaining it in a bowl, it incredibly is contributing to the problem. A nicely cycled tank and a healthful fish will do high-quality. whether it incredibly is a bacterial problem there are anti-biotic drugs which you will get out of your puppy keep.

ok gold fish get their color from the sun and i wont bore you with the details but they need artificial light to be colorful if you had him in a closet for2 weeks and took him out he would be white (by the way be sure your goldie is not in a bowl and in at least a 20 gallon :)

goldfish turn colors based on the types of food they eat (you can buy some specifically to boost color, Wardley's makes a reliable flake specifically to boost color)

they also change color depending on the light that they are in. indirect natural sunlight will boost its color, if you can't get natural sunlight to it then try flourescent lighting.
