Are ripe olives, direct from the tree, poisonous?

I know they are 'bitter' and are cured for enhancing their flavor. Just wondering if anybody knew if they were unhealthy to eat straight from the tree?

    I've never know them to be poisonous but geeewizzzz... after tasting one you'll never make the mistake of trying another in your life.

    No, not poisonous, just gross, much better steeped in brine and eaten with a Greek salad.

    No, they are not poisonous, they just taste absolutely horrible.
