When picking up carryout from a restaurant, do I tip the worker who brings it out to my car?

I work in a restaurant and although we don't have curbside service, I know for a fact that carryout orders can be a lot of work to assemble with putting the food in boxes, and all the various condiments in little to go containers, packing bread and butter, utensils, etc. I think take out orders should be tipped on to show appreciation for these efforts, I mean the food didn't get packed up so nicely by itself! I don't think it's necessary to tip as much as if you were eating inside the restaurant and getting full service, but if you want to tip that much I'm sure it will be appreciated!! I'd say tipping 10% is a good rule to follow. If the order's for $20, then tip $2, for $50, tip $5, and so on. It's not very expensive to do and it shows that you are a customer who is aware of the efforts the food service employees put out to get your order to you with everything you need to enjoy it!

I haven't heard of car-side carryout. But if you are not walking in to pick up your food. And if they are going out of their way for you. Then they deserve a tip! Sorry i don't know how much!

In today's society tipping falls into three categories, those who do, those who don't, and those who won't. The do's do tip because its the right thing to do, the don't's don't because they feel the price of service doesn't warrant a tip, the won't's thinking tipping is just a waste of their money. Its your personal decision what group you fall in. No, you don't recieve traditional service from a waiter, but someone took your order, prepared your meal, brought it to in a (hopefully) speedy and friendly manner, and then you went home enjoying the benefits and ease of not having to slaving over a stove. I think that's worth a few extra dollars.

You can, but typically they aren't bringing you several courses and cleaning up after you, as if you were inside eating.

I don't tip carryout, I think it's strictly a matter of what you feel comfortable with.

It's up to you. I wouldn't tip more than a dollar or 2, they didn't wait on you, they just carried it to the car, they were hired to do it. The people deserving the tip would be the ones who made sure your order was correct and made sure it was packed correctly. They usually don't bring it to the car.

If you sent him back for extra napkins, or he took it upon himself to put extra sauces in your order, or he had to walk two blocks to deliver it because you parked in the wrong lot, then yes, a modest tip is in order. Otherwise, he is being paid to deliver food.

Gratuities are given in appreciation of extra effort being made to make your experience more enjoyable. Unless the delivery guy took some extra effort to bring you your food, then a tip is unnecessary.

That's kind of a hard question to answer. It's not like they did any real work for you. Didn't keep your drinks filled, didn't ask you if your meal was ok or if they could get you anything. I would not tip anything over 10%...I don't even know if I'd tip anything at all.

Tipping is overrated, unless you are being served in a sit-down restaurant, I don't think so, but hey if you feel like giving away money don't do it out of guilt because everyone else is doing it, just send it to me!

no.. tipping is based on the service you get as a guess at Restaurant...based on how good the food was and your service..take out is not part of that...but if you feel that xtra mile was giving to you ...it would be up to you

With this I think it's more up to you of what you would want to do
