You can still get a mortgage. That type of loan is frequently called an ITIN (individual taxpayer identification number) loan. Not all banks do them, but if you look around with a few local banks and brokers odds are that you'll find several. Keep in mind these loans tend to be full documentation only so you will need to verify your income as well as your residency status.

As long as you can afford the mortgages payments, you should not have a problem getting a home, especially if you have good credit. That's what banks look for. It tells them that you will be reliable and they will get their payments on time. Just don't buy a home beyond your means because then the trouble starts. Many first time buyers get a home that may need some repairs or decorating and as the years go on, you can keep adding value to your property until you are ready to sell and get a bigger home. I don't know about this new law you're talking about that begins after Jan. 1st. What's that about? Good luck, I hope you find what you want.

I can't imagine they would deny a permanent resident a mortgage. That would not be in their best interest considering the money they will make. Plus the government gets their share with the property taxes. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Good Luck!
