Dogsitting Payment?

I was at a friends get-together and one of her friends who I had just met that night said she needed a dogsitter and I said I would do it. She said she would pay me $50 a day, and so I agreed to it for this past long weekend.

I just got off the phone with her to check up and she said she would meet up with me later this week to get her keys back and also to figure out how much to pay me.

What should I do? Should I remind her what she intially said? I had to stay here at her house, which was quite inconvenient, especially since I had to take public transportation here because she doesn't have any parking. I also had to take her dog on two 30-40 min. walks a day, plus a 10 minute walk at the end of the night. I thought it was all a bit excessive, but worth the price. Now I don't know what to do. I don't want to be rude, but I barely know this person. Then again, I'm usually a stickler for good etiquette. Any suggestions???

Well, you need to talk to her. You did her a great favor. I think the $50 / day sounds great.

My neighbor has a dog sitter and she pays her 35 dollars / day.

I drop my dog off to a sitter and because the dog is at her house this sitter charges me only (!!!) 15 Dollars, which is a great bargain. (but we always bring her some extra goodies etc)

If you drop off of your dog overnight to one of those kennels it will cost you at least 45 dollars (Petsmart hotel)

So, talk to her and remind her ....

I realize it varies from city to city, state to state what the market is for different services. I think $50 per day/night is more than fair. You stated you had to take public transportation because she didn't have any parking but where does she keep her car when at home???

When you initially said you would do it, did you not expect to walk the dog two or three times daily? I have had pet sitters stay at my house and watch 10 dogs for only $35 per day. But, the market may be less where I am compared to where you live.

If she tries to pay less than the agreed upon $50 per day, just smile and remind her that was agreed upon. Then, if it was such a hardship on you, don't be available again if she asks.

I keep dogs at my home for $12 per day and they eat my dog food! I might have to check into it and see if I need to raise my prices!

wait and see what she has to say. if she says less than $50 then you can remind her. you are worrying about it and you don't even know what she is going to say yet.
