How to play DOTA (warcraft III) over the LAN?

We're using a LAN with proxy to access internet. Each time we join the game created by another user, the game dissappears. Why is that?

My friend had a similar problem, your firewall or antivirus may be preventing this problem so try turning it off.

I think all the computers need to have the same version of DotA saved in the map files, and make sure all the copies of the game are up to date with the patches

well first u must go to warcraft lan then create a network/game by any name lets say "devil". make sure both the computers are connected to the same net connection(network). you have you have created a game "devil" on warcraft so open warcraft on the other pc and join the game and play.

One thing to add,DOTA is not warcraft 3,it's just a recreation of it.
