Windows Vista Question..?
my sister just purchased a toshiba laptop ( reasonably priced) at best buy.. however it only has 512 Ram...... this is exactly what it needs to run windows vista.....
think it will run slow!?? I think the processor isn't the best processor ever either.... Should We just return it now? before even opening it and is windows vista really worth it!?? I have XP now and i know XP would ru more than fine in the computer my sister just purchased.. but vista just seems rad...
thanks

1gig and more would be better to run Vista and the rest of the devices installed in your Sister's computer. 512 is not sufficient to run
Vista and all her devices efficiently. It will run slow when graphic applications are run or when multi tasking.
Vista is a new operating system and will likely experience similar problems that XP did in it's beginning. On the long run it will be to her advantage to have Vista but at the moment many users are experiencing headaches.
A Vista Service Pack is due out in early 2008 and maybe earlier, so that should fix some issues.
Upgrading the Ram will definitely help with the performance.
Asking Best Buy to upgrade at a reduced cost might be an option. If they think you will return the computer they may give in to upgrading the Ram.
Microsoft also has a program for those wanting to downsize to XP. You can verify with Best Buy if your Sister's computer is elligible for Microsoft's downsizing program. They may do it for you at no cost if elligible and if your Sister decides to go with XP.

Yes, Vista needs a lot of RAM atleast 1GB, but 2GB is the best that it runs at. I use to have a toshiba that i bought about 2 years ago, it got recalled and whole bunch of crap happened. ya, u might want to return it, or if u really got it for cheap and want to keep it, just load windows XP, if u have the CD.

That amount of RAM is very LOW for Windows Vista. I have 2Gig in my HP Laptop and sometimes think it could use more.
Mine is fairly fast because I removed most of the HP programs that were on it when I got it including the games.
With only 512MB of RAM, I'd return it honestly.

Hi, no the laptop won't run Vista at all. 512 ram is too low and I think u should return the laptop right away. Vista is worth it though.
Good Luck and take care!

Take back. Vista has some great features but is buggy as you know what. Fixes are not due until first quarter of next year.

You should get 1 gb minimum, and vista is fine, it's honestly not as bad as people say. On the other hand though, it's not a breakthrough.
