Can anyone tell me how to get rid of 3 annoying pop-ups.?

I keep getting the same 3 pop-ups from,Registry Cleaner, RegUpdate.net & registrycleanerxp.com. I know my registry's in pretty good shape, what do I do to get rid or stop them altogether?

Do these popups say "Messenger Service" in the title bar?

NONE OF THE "SOLUTIONS" ABOVE WILL STOP "MESSENGER SERVICE POP-UPS!

If so, then you are using an older version or (un-updated) of Windows (pre XP SP2). These type of popups exploit the Messenger Service in your Windows OS, which after XP SP2 is disabled by default.

A popup blocker "thingy" will be of no help in this case.

You have 3 choices to end the problem.

    1. You can disable and stop Messenger Service by typing "services msc." (without the ""s) into your Run Box and then disabling and stopping Messenger Service.

    OR

    2. You can use the free utility called Shoot The Messenger to automatically disable this unnecessary service.

    http://www.grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm

    OR (Best Solution)

    3. Update or upgrade your operating system to at least Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Please note that Windows Messenger Service is not the same as any Instant Messenger program that you may have on your computer. Disabling it will not cause you to lose any IM functionality that you may have.

    Good luck

these are pop ups caused not by the internet itself but by spyware that you have picked up.....

download yourself a good spyware killer, either a free one like AVG Anti Spyware, or purchase a good one......

these will probably flag up a couple of spyware programs that are lurking on your system...and hopefully remove them....

on top of that i would reccomend uninstalling any of the common "search" toolbars that are prevalent these days, google toolbar, yahoo toolbar etc etc..they are a waste of time and allow security access for pop ups....if you have them...

finally download ccleaner and run it to remove all your internet history etc, any temp files, and also to scan your registry and remove erroneous reg keys that will be caling for any recently removed software.

To be rid of the malware, after you have installed the scanning programs listed below, be sure to update them.

A security program is only effective if it is updated with the latest definitions. Updating will help provide protection against the most recently introduced security threats.

Run at least one, preferably two

    ****SUPERAntiSpyware****

    Ad-Aware

    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/index.php

    SpyBot S&D

    http://www.safer-networking.org/

And clean up the clutter with...

    CCleaner

    Uninstall the problematic programs.

Run a virus/spyware scan with Grisoft AVG

    http://www.grisoft.com/ (free version)

Make sure you've got Internet Explorer 7 as it's the safest and most secure browser, when fully updated.

Either d/load a pop-up blocker, or bash them over the head with a frying pan each time they pop up.

I use Pop-Up stopper from Panicware. If you set it to block all pop-ups it should stop this.

A scan with Ad-Aware might find and fix the source of the problem.

You will need to do several things to get rid of these. You are probably infected with one or more malware. I suspect you have not been performing any routine maintenance tasks, which will help prevent more infections!

Please run thru this list which will help you get on top of this situation, and make removal of malware much easier!

1 - Delete all cookies, temp files and temporary internet files and reboot the computer. Watch for unusualy messages as the computer boots up. Ccleaner is GREAT for doing this so much better than Windows Disk Clean up. Ccleaner can be downloaded from www.filehippo.com If you prefer the built in Disk Cleanup, open My Computer, right-click on the the C: drive, choose Properties. On the first tab is a button labeled DISK CLEANUP.

2a - Check the main hard drive free space - it must be 25% free or it will slow your computer down.

2b - If 25% or under free space, move less needed files to a CD (make 2 separate copies!) and delete from hard drive. Also uninstall programs no longer needed, via Add/Remove programs

3a - Check what is running in your Systray (by the clock). Use MSCONFIG to turn off all programs NOT needed to run all the time. For example, you don't need your CD burning software to run *until* you need to burn a CD - at which time the software will start by itself. Ditto for Adobe Acrobat! Then re-boot the computer for the changes to take effect. Win 2000 does not have a built in MSCONFIG - but there is a free version available for download on your computer from: http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Msconfi...

3b - Some of this can also be accomplished using Task Manager. Right after a reboot, open Task Manager and check for all running processes. Make a list of them! You should have less than 40 running at startup for efficient operations. At 40 and over you can have significant slowdown. Google all you are unfamiliar with and keep notes for yourself. When you find the computer slowing again, you can compare your new list of running processes to the original list and go from there.

4 - Update and run your Anti-virus program. Ditto for anti-spyware and anti-adware programs. Google the programs you are currently using for mal-ware protection to ensure they, themselves are NOT mal-ware!!! FYI - I like to use "Ad-Aware" and "Spybot, Search & Destroy", both of which are FREE and can be downloaded from www.download.com Be careful of "look-alike" programs, with similar names to known good programs. If you need a good FREE anti-virus program, I prefer AVG, also available from www.download.com For all of these programs you will need to download, install, update and scan, one at a time.

5 - Get rid of all unneeded programs via Add/Remove programs. ONLY remove programs you have installed yourself that you KNOW are not needed for Windows to run. It is better to be less aggressive with this, than more! Always reboot your computer after deleting several programs.

6 - Last, run Error-checking THEN Defrag. DO NOT RUN DEFRAG WITHOUT RUNNING ERROR-CHECKING FIRST! If you have a bad hard drive sector, you can hose your computer!! You can find both of these programs by opening My Computer, right-click on the the C: drive, choose Properties. On the TOOLS tab is are two buttons, one for each program. When you run Error-checking, make sure you check both boxes to automatically fix file system error AND scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    HTH : )
