Dog Appeasing Pheromone/ DAP - your experience?

Do any of you have an opinion of the efficacy of DAP? I'm looking for an alternative to Prozac to help my puppy work through his separation anxiety.

Background:

We've tried almost everything... but puppy was taken away from his mother at around 5 weeks, was abused, abandoned and left for dead. We've tried a couple of behavioural trainers, but so far I think they are a waste of money.

We were going to put him in daycare to get used to not being around us the whole time (we work from home) but he was rejected in his interview because he was too scared of the humans there.

We work from home and our apartment is open plan, so ignoring his howls for hours on end/ locking him in another room is not an option.

Thanks, Spanky! Can you also provide more info on how to administer Rescue Remedy? Two drops under tongue, or 10 drops in his water, for example?

    Seperation anxiety is quite serious to those who are living with it.

    Stress effects a dog in many ways just as it does in humans.

    Your pet is seriously stressed out and it is causing all kinds of anxiety. There is a new product called Reconcile that is available at this time.

    I have seen alprazalom (xanex) used in pets with extreme anxiety.

    Some pets respond well with this drug but it takes time.

    If the training isn't helping along with the DAP you may have to try something systemic like Reconcile or alaprazalom.

    There is hope!

    Just know that there will be alot of trail and error.

    How are you wanting to use the DAP? The stuff wasn't out when I was showing my dogs. I wouldn't see why it would be a problem, but write to AKC and ask if there is a rule about it. I am sure my book isn't updated on that.

    try rescue remedy look it up, for some dogs it does wonders and others will not do anything for :/ I groom dogs and sell rescue remedy the owners who i recomend and bought it, i found great deal of diffrence while im grooming them. well i hope what ever you do he will be happy and healthy. good luck
