How long do you have to file a Charge-Back with a credit card?

Ok, here's the situation: I made a post on Craig's List that I wanted to sell a slightly used Laptop. Some guy contacted me, he payed me via Paypal and I shipped him out the lap top. That was over 4 and a half months ago. Just yesterday he emails me and says that the laptop has broke and the wants a full refund. I tell him that I clearly stated on my post that the laptop was being sold as is and that I would not accept refunds.

I wasn't out the scam anybody, the laptop was working perfectly and I even included pictures. Also, keep in mind that this was almost 5 months ago, who knows what he's done to the laptop since then. I obviously said I wouldn't give him a refund but now he's threating to file a chargeback with his credit card which would in turn make me owe Paypal money. So is there a time limit in which he can file a charge back? Should I be worried?

It depends on the card - they usually allow someone to dispute a charge anywhere from 60 days to 6 months after the charge is made.

That said, in this case I wouldn't worry too much. The credit card company would contact you for your side of the story, and and as-is notice, a no refund notice and 5 months of use of the laptop later, I seriously doubt they'd allow him to win.

If by chance his credit card company goes out of their minds and allows the chargeback, you can still file a small claims case.

I seriously doubt you'll have to bother, though.

Tell the guy very courteously that the sale was as-is, final, and five months ago. Wish him luck. He'll be showing copies of all communications to his credit card company, so you want to remain courteous and professional, but firm.

    Good luck!

in case you have been on no account made attentive to this subject and on no account signed something that reported you have been, then you definately could o.k. have a controversy here. that's no longer unlawful for them to do something like this yet they could desire to grant you spot of it first; that's in all threat only buried on your settlement someplace. in case you have been on no account recommended of it, you on no account agreed to them charging your card this style and while you're responsible for the fees, they are not entitled to take it off your card like that. even nonetheless, if this suggestion is obtainable someplace from their internet site--despite if publicly or on an settlement you are able to view as quickly as you log in on your account (which seems surprisingly in all threat), you will possibly have had valuable observe of it and can't quite argue approximately it. in case you tell your credit business enterprise to place a carry on your card i think of they could desire to, and the charge does no longer get placed on the cardboard. i might try this and then attempt to artwork it out w/ directv afterwards. in case you argue adequate i'm confident you will get that quantity decreased besides. reliable success!
