best / most reasonable priced area to stay in ny around christmas,?
looking to go NY for christmas with 2 kids and the prices for hotels around T Square are very expensive, can you recommend any nice areas that you can easily travel into TS and around NY that are more reasonable in price. Your help would be appriecated in this.

I am going at xmas and I'm shocked at the hotel prices, they are extortionate. I have booked a room at the "Pod Hotel" in East Midtown. Its not right in the middle but its in a good neighbourhood and its a nice hotel. We are paying £400 for 5 nights.
I've been to NYC 5 times already and the hotel i usually stay in is now £234 a night... NO CHANCE!!

Reasonable price and times square hotel at christmas dont go very well together. But if you use a website like cheaphotels.com or hotwire.com you can find plenty of places in the 200 a night range.
The pod hotel that another poster recommended isnt too bad. It would probably be a little cramped with 2 kids though...plus its "shared bathrooms". But check into them.

You could stay at a hostel. That would be your best bet but with kids I wouldn't risk it.
