I am signed onto yahoo forum and it shows that i am off line?

    That's what you want to protect your privacy! You made that choice when you were editing your account information. Savvy web users all choose that setting! Congrats! :-)

    there is a little box at the bottom of editing your profile- that is where you check to appear online-

    (I am lit all the time and I am still savvy. either way it doesn't encourage or prevent privicy at all)
