I agree, lose the boyfriend.

A relationship should be about open communication and compromise. The fact that he doesn't like small dogs and that's "the end of it" should indicate to you that he is controlling and everything has to be his way.

With that being said, I don't know how willing you are to stand up to him if you're not going to break up with him. If you do go ahead and get the dog you want, you need to be strong enough to not give the dog up if the BF hates the dog. Dogs deserve loving homes and are not disposable. If you do get one, know that you are committed for the rest of that dog's life. Only get the dog (any dog for that matter) if you are 100% sure you can commit.

Your boyfriend should be sympathetic towards your needs. You guys are a team which involves some giving and sacrifice. If you want a dachshund, get get ya one. They are awesome. Maybe you should find a different boyfriend if he's bickering about something so small. Good luck to you!

Hi, just make sure you know what responsibility having a dog acomes with before you get one...there are many resue sites too which have a lot of dogs which need new homes?

If he's going to dictate terms like this now when you're just boyfriend/girlfriend, there's no way you should get serious with this control freak. You can do better than this guy!

(And you didn't say what stage your relationship was at with him, so this is just unrequested advice on my part. DON'T HAVE A KID WITH THIS GUY, OR YOU'LL NEVER GET HIM OUT OF YOUR LIFE)

You could get a more tolerant, open-minded, and less abusive boyfriend.

You could also look up the origins of the dachsund and find out that it was originally bred to dig out and kill badgers. Not exactly a wimp, now is it.

I have a mini dachshund named oscar and he is the cutest thing in the world. Your boyfriend not cool, you should get one.

personally i think that your boyfriend is a bit selfish...so its ok for him to have the dogs that he wants but you cant? i dont think that on! you should do what you want without having to answer to anyone. your, your own woman and can make your own decions...GO FOR IT

I dont recommend getting a dachshund. I have one, and they definately arent for everyone. They bark a LOT, they follow you EVERYWHERE and they are nippy!
