The Eustachian Tube connects the middle ear to the back of the throat. This allows air pressure to equalize out inside the middle ear.
When you get a cold or infection, the body will produce extra mucus and the Eustachian Tube can become blocked result in temporary deafness and a feeling that you ear is bunged up.
This should clear itself over the next week as the mucus thins and clears. If you are still deaf after a week you should visit your Physician.
You may find a decongestant tablet that contains pseudophedrine useful in reducing the mucus levels, however you should not take this medication if you suffer from high blood pressure as one of the side effects can be to raise blood pressure

Rub Vicks Vapor Rub on your chest and some under your nose and suck on a Halls cough drop. It should clear you out temporarily. Also steam yourself.
