Buy him better food. You put garbage in a dog and you get garbage out. Feed a food with no more then 2 grains in the first 5 ingredients. Also give him a nice raw meaty soup bone from the grocery once a week to chew on. It will scrape his teeth clean the way nature intended and will help his breath a LOT. Not to mention it will provide hours of chewing pleasure. :)
Forget the toothbrush idea's.. Just give the dog a bone.
Also forget Denta-bones and crap like that. Why would anyone want to give their dog a piece of plastic to chew on? Just give him a real bone from the grocery.

You can't mask the problem with breath bones ect.
You have to find out what the real problem is.
Could the dog have worms?
Could there be a dental problem?
Could there be a stomach condition?
Take the dog to the vet and have it checked over really well.
It could be a dental problem, worms, or a stomach condition.
If the teeth have a lot of calculus and they are not taken care of then that can cause some dental problems.
Also what kind of food are you feeding?
Get a better quality food.

The pet shops offer a breath mint/ chewy thing for dogs. I think it's called Greenies?? Not 100% sure about the name but they work wonders for doggy breath. The only problem is that they tear up their stomachs.

My favorite dental bone is made by Nyla Bone and it's green. Keeps my puppy's breath fresh and clean.

There are certain types of "denta-bones" you can get. Check at the pet shops and see what they recommend. Dogs put anything and everything in their mouth which explains the smell it's expelling, hope it works out for you.
