Siguatepeque Honduras if you like perfect climate, down around Tela Honduras if you like hot and clear water beach. Honduras is very friendly, I have a home in Siguatepeque which is a mile high and you need neither AC or heat except for a few rare days a year. The people are very nice, particularly in Siguatepeque and the US airbase about 40 miles south of there at Comyagua has full commissary and fly in and out priviledges for vets etc. Comyagua is lower and hot, but if you like west texas etc. you would like it there and they have an american walled area with a great golf course if you like that sort of thing. Personally I more enjoy living in there with the regular people.
I liked what you said about living where you can help others just even by living there, for example I know for a fact that when I buy my avacados from a lady that comes by every day or so, those few limpera I hand her make the difference in she and her family eating that day and the kids having shoes so they can go to school. It is a whale of a feeling to live where you can see the positive impact you have on a day to day basis.
The income you state would be much more than adequate for an extremely comfortable life there! If you want more info email.
I wish you well!

Have you thought about Argentina? More specifically Buenos Aires? I guess it would depend on whether you're a big city person or not. With it's 12 million inhabitants it's no wonder the city doesn't sleep at night. It's been called the Paris of the South because of it's French inspired architecture. LOTS of American expatriates live in B.A. and even more now because of the conversion rate: 3 pesos to every dollar. Housing is pretty affordable to us. Apartments in the city start at about $40k for a 1 bedroom. You can get a pretty decent sized apt, centrally located for $150k. A lot of foreigners live in Recoleta, Cabildo and Palermo districts. It's a great country with a lot of culture, tradition and ART. :) Lots of public art, parks (every few blks). The Boca district is big on outdoor displays, dancing (tango), singing, poetry readings etc.
Good luck on your search!!

G'day..
Look.. Aussies are not fully in support of President Bush.. BUT they have infinate love for ex-servicemen as Aussies understand the hard work American soldiers undertake.. and sometimes to help us Aussies too..
I'm sure if you ventured to the land down under, that you would not only be embraced and welcomed, but would also be treated with the respect you've earnt. Like I said, I'm no Bush supporter, but I take my hat off to some US soldiers.. not all.. but some..
Oz is a land without many guns my friend.. you can live in peace here.. I strongly recommend you look at Western Australia, Perth especially is a wonderland and is the most remote city on Earth!! Magical place.. you'd love it.
